How to Score High on the ASVAB

If you want to become  an Air Force fighter pilot, a Navy seal or work in the armed forces as a mechanic or electrician  you will need to score high on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Test.   These and many more Armed Forces occupation programs have specific ASVAB score requirements. And if your score is not high enough for the programs you will not be admitted.

Although the ASVAB test covers covers 11  subject areas, for the most part it only addresses  subject material that is learned in high school  If you have done well in mathematics, general science, electronics, auto shop, wood shop and  the language arts throughout high school, you will probably do well on the test. If you are weak in one or more of these subjects or have not taken a specific subject in high school, you will have to review the ones you've had and learn the subjects you have not taken courses in.

Even if you feel confident in all of the ASVAB subject test areas, you will improve your score substantially if you take the time to review what you learned in high school. If you want to ensure that you have the highest level of proficiency and score in the top percentile, the best approach is to focus your study time on areas of the exam you have not had courses in or are weak in. If you want to excel on the test, it is best to set aside a block of time to review,  increase your knowledge in the subject test areas, as well as do lots of practice tests.

  1. The ASVAB is the world's most commonly used multiple-aptitude test battery. This is the selection and classification method for all five U.S. Army Services branches. The ASVAB tests strengths, weaknesses, and future career growth prospects. The test is given in English only.
