Using Microsoft PowerPoint to Eliminate Colorcast in Black and White Illustrations

Gray colorcasts on scanned black and white images can ruin the pen and ink effect of a drawing. The pen and ink of the bunny rabbit below clearly shows the gray color the scanner introduced into this pen and ink bunny rabbit drawing.

If you are creating a Microsoft Word or PowerPoint document that needs crisp black and white pen and ink images, you remove the gray or blue shadows introduced from a scanner after you import the image into Word or PowerPoint.

After you insert a picture in PowerPoint you have the option to select the Remove Background Color icon. Once selected the gray colorcast will be highlighted in a different color (such as pink).  Simply right-click to save the image, and your picture will be saved with the colorcast removed as shown below.

Before you save the image, you may have to resize the color region that PowerPoint selected. For this example, the image was saved as a png file instead of a jpg file. The png file resulted in the production of a transparent file where the jpg did not.
