Tablet compatible Algebra I slide show based on Common Core State Standards,,,, designed for teachers, tutors and students

In its effort to expedite the implementation of the Algebra I Common Core State Standards, BookMarkTutoring.com (Santa Rosa, CA) has developed a set of 150 Algebra I slides based on the standard.  Currently BookMark uses the slides as part of its online and in-person Algebra tutoring program.

An abridged version of the slides, called The Very Best Algebra Notes, is available on Amazon. The abridged version contains 48 ebook formatted slides that illustrate and summarize the formulas, equations, procedures, facts and definitions needed for students to review for Algebra I tests and exams. According to corestandards.org,  forty-five states have have adopted the Common Core State Standards. This is in additional to the District of Columbia, four territories, and the Department of Defense Education Activity. The states that have not adopted the standards yet include Minnesota,  Nebraska, Virginia, Texas, and Alaska.

New eyeglasses prototype for the blind converts text to audio - flood of different designs expected to hit market soon

A system that permits  eyeglasses to transform printed or screen text to audible words has been  developed at International Florida University. The new system is a small indication of  just what can be done with today's existing technology. The EyeTalk (based on the FreedomLens), as it is called, consists of web cams built into the glasses. The visual text that the web cams sees  is converted to   audio using text-to-audio conversion software. That audio is then streamed to an earphone that the reader wears.

More applications like the FreedomLens are expected to continue to  emerge, not only as a way to help the blind read, but for all types of navigation applications where visibility can't be relied on.   And that's because the technology needed to construct applications like the FreedomLens is  already in the consumer marketplace.  Virtual eyeglasses (eyeglasses that receive text from a data stream  and project that data on the lens of the eyeglasses), web cams, text-to-speech conversion software and USB data cards are all mature technologies and are available from a number of different vendors.

The technology challenge is really in the selection of the different components, how well the technology works in different environments and how inexpensive and how  easy the interface is to  use, says Mark Stansberry, author of the Very Best Algebra Notes. He added that his ebook was formatted to be pocket projector ready and that he is looking at applications such as EyeTalk to see what the formatting issues might be for talking virtual eyeglass ready ebooks.

Educational trends point to smart phone controlled pocket projectors and slide show ready textbooks

Its now possible to give slide shows anytime and anywhere with a pocket projector, smartphone and a slide-formatted ebook. Companies such as BrookStone and Apple have teamed up to offer the pocket projector and smartphone as the new alternative to small screens. Although aimed more at the consumer market,educators might see the  value of smart phone controlled pocket projector. They offer big screen viewing, are extremely portable  and are fairly inexpensive.

The use of smartphone controlled pocket projectors along with standardized educational slide shows could go a long way in shoring up educational systems around the world.  And that's because schools could ensure that a standard for lecture notes is me and  teachers would have more time to add custom content to standardized content (freed from writing standard content for basic material). Teachers also would have more time to focus on their own style and have more time for one-on-one instruction.
